However, an association with milk intake and decreased hip fractures has not been made. Milk contains nutrients important for bone health: calcium, phosphorus, vitamin D, and protein. However, another study following three large cohorts of men and women found that whole milk was associated with higher risks of total mortality including mortality from cardiovascular disease. There was no association when looking specifically at high-fat versus low-fat dairy products. A review of 17 prospective studies found that milk intake was not associated with increased risk of mortality (early death) from cardiovascular diseases. However, randomized trials of low-fat milk have not consistently found milk to lower blood pressure. Milk contains potassium, magnesium, and calcium, which helps to regulate blood pressure. A meta-analysis of 15 prospective cohort studies found that low-fat and fermented milk were moderately protective of stroke, possibly due to a reduction in blood pressure.Drinking skim milk was associated with a lower risk. Whole milk was associated with 1.5 times the risk of heart disease in women drinking 1-2 glasses or more a day. There was a 6% increase in CVD risk when dairy fat was replaced with other animal fats (e.g., from red meat). However, when dairy fat was swapped with an equal amount of calories from polyunsaturated or vegetables oils, there was a 24% and 10% lower risk of CVD, respectively. A study following three large cohorts of men and women found that dairy fat including milk was not associated with overall CVD risk. However, if dairy fat in milk is compared with unsaturated plant oils, nuts, or seeds, milk may appear to increase CVD risk. ![]() For example, if comparing milk with high saturated fat meats, milk may show no difference in heart health. However, the minerals in milk, specifically calcium and potassium may help to control blood pressure.Ĭomparison of milk with other foods in the diet can affect study results. Whole milk contains saturated fat, which is known to increase total cholesterol, raising both LDL “bad” and HDL “good” cholesterol levels. The connection of milk and cardiovascular disease (CVD) is unclear. ![]() Different forms of dairy foods, such as cheese, or yogurt, may have health effects different than milk. ![]() Are other factors in the diet considered, such as if the participants are eating plenty of fruits and vegetables, or large amounts of processed meat or refined carbohydrates, which can confound the true health effects of milk?.The composition of milk (fat, protein from varying amino acids) may differ depending on the breed and feed of the cows. Are different classifications of milk included, or just one type? Whole, reduced-fat, fat-free, or organic?.For example, people from Japan tend to drink about less than half of the milk consumed in Western countries The amount of milk that is considered a “high” or “low” intake can vary among populations studied. Some reasons may be the wide range of different nutritional qualities in milk and how milk intake is measured, as seen in the following factors: Research on milk often produces contrary findings. However, research has not shown a consistent benefit on bone health with high intakes of milk, and furthermore has suggested potential harm with certain conditions like prostate cancer. Marketing efforts such as the iconic “Got Milk?” campaign with celebrities donning milk mustaches spread this message as well. The Dietary Guidelines for Americans recommends including three 8-ounce servings of milk daily (or equal portions of other dairy foods like cheese or yogurt), which is justified to increase calcium intake and reduce the risk of osteoporosis and fractures. Vitamin A and Vitamin D (added during processing). Some cows are given additional hormones to increase milk production. Cows are often pregnant while they are milked, so dairy milk contains hormones like insulin-like growth factor-1 (IGF-1), estrogens, and progestins. Processing techniques remove fat to produce lower fat varieties: “reduced fat” contains 2% milkfat, “lowfat” contains 1% milkfat, and “nonfat” or “skim” has virtually no milkfat. The remaining 13% contains protein, fat, carbohydrates, vitamins, and minerals. Whole cow’s milk contains about 87% water. ![]() This section will focus on dairy milk from cows, and briefly discuss non-dairy plant milk alternatives. Although dairy milk may come from any mammal, cows, goats, buffalo, and sheep are common producers. Dairy milk may be introduced at later ages if tolerated well. Breast milk is the preferred food for infants, as it is well-tolerated while their digestive tracts develop and mature. Milk is the liquid produced by the mammary glands of mammals, including humans.

Nowhere do Hypnos state that their beds are not suitable for people weighing over 16 stone and if their beds cannot take prolonged use without frequent turning, I would seriously advise anyone over 16 stone to AVOID purchasing a Hypnos bed since it is apparent that their quality standards have dropped significantly whereas their prices most definitely haven't. Subsequently, at a weight of just over 17 stone, I am too heavy to sit on the bed plus I should have turned it more frequently, so they won't honour the warranty. Knowing Hypnos make a big deal of their alleged quality and guarantee, we registered a claim and Hypnos sent in a somewhat melancholy assessor who asked a multitude of questions, including whether anyone who slept on the bed was over 16 stone in weight. ![]() Within 6-8 months the springs had burst through one side of the mattress and this was having an increasingly uncomfortable effect on the bed. We've owned Hypnos beds previously with no problems, but we spend a considerable amount of money on a Hypnos Darley (Cotton Origins 7) king size sprung divan bed plus Hypnos headboard. I am considering writing to The Furniture Ombudsman for their advice. I’m not sure what to do for best as it’s 3 years down the line after purchase but we can’t carry on sleeping on this bed. My husband is considering putting a bed board underneath but I think this is defeatest, but he finds it so uncomfortable and he now has neck pain. We paid £2.5 k for this bed & it looks beautiful but it’s become a nightmare. We should have complained again but couldn’t face going through the stress of it again. We thought our problems were over but a month or so the exact same ridge in the middle occurred. We decided on the former and a replacement mattress was delivered. ![]() Furniture Village offered to replace the mattress like for like or charge us if we chose a different one. Furniture eventually agreed to send a technician who again claimed it was due to natural settlement but to try sleeping in the middle! We sent a complaint direct to Hypnos who sent their own technician who immediately diagnosed a problem with mattress and would recommend it to be replaced. To do this with a Super King size bed in our late 60s is not easy but we endeavoured to do so but it made no difference. Many heated emails to Furniture Village ensued where they claimed it was due to ‘natural settlement’ & we should turn the mattress once a week for 3 months. However after about a week a ridge or hump formed down the middle of the mattress which felt like sleeping at the bottom of a hill. The mattress has a cashmere Cushion Topper sewn on top. We purchased our Hypnos bed from Furniture Village approx 3 years ago as their beds have a reputation of luxury and comfort. The GDP outlook for 2023 is unquestionably downbeat too, with some forecasters putting the probability of recession at 60% or greater. The economy expanded at an annual rate of 1.3% during the first three months of 2023, down from the 2.6% growth seen in the final quarter of 2022. Gross domestic product decelerated once again in the first quarter, hurt by high inflation, rising interest rates and turmoil in the banking sector. "The Fed statement is pretty clear: we are not done yet."Īnd then there's the bigger picture. "The outlook for two additional hikes this year exceeded the one hike expected and lessens the positive impact of a decline in headline CPI while putting the focus squarely on the stickier core number," says Steve Wyett, chief investment strategist at BOK Financial. The slower rate of inflation, which came in below economists' expectations, should theoretically give the Federal Reserve room to pause its long campaign of interest rate hikes.īut experts say the CPI report and other data hardly give the Fed a slam-dunk case for putting rate hikes on permanent hold. Core CPI, which excludes volatile food and energy prices, remains stubbornly elevated, they note. Inflation cooled once again in May, with prices rising at the slowest pace in more than two years, according to the CPI report. ![]() Meanwhile, the economic data aren't conclusively helping the case for lower interest rates – even as rate increases put stress on the banking sector and threaten to push the economy into recession. ![]() This construction makes this style resistant to wind and weather. ![]() Being pressure treated, these panels have protection against rot and a lifespan of up to 15 years. In general, our customers want us to understand the spec instead of them and make the rest easy - but tasks like this (redaction is another one), are really hard to do without understanding the depth of the PDF specification. The hardest part is that we do our very best to hide the complexity of PDF from our customers. My library is being used by Atalasoft, the company I work for, to generate PDFs from whole cloth and to do editing within a very limited domain (annotations, document metadata). If it were me, I would use tools that I've developed and I'd still be a little shy of this task. PdfLib, which is a commercial product, appears to be to generate PDF, although it's not clear if it can consume it, but you could certainly get both sides by gluing them together. I'm not going to recommend a library for you - sorry - I gave xpdf a brief look over and it's not clear whether or not it has PDF generation capabilities or if it is simply a consumer of PDF. This is not editing text - it's just trying to find a single word or phrase. This is why, when I wrote the find text tool for Acrobat 1.0, it took me two months of sweat to handle as many of the edge cases. And what if your text is laid our on a curve or an unusual orientation (maps, ads)? What about the cases where someone subtly changes the font size for a greater distinction between upper and lower case or simulates small caps? If you're not lucky (which is most of the time), they're instead lay out the text with a set of moves before every single glyph on the page. Some programs want to lay text down very precisely, so if you're lucky, they'll use the TJ operator which lays out text with specific kerning. There are PDF generation programs (I'm looking at you, troff) that lay all the plain text on a page first, then lay all the italic text, then all the bold text. Let me briefly describe why this is as bad as it sounds. Alter the content stream of the page to include your changed content.Īnd 3 is where you're going to get hung up, because there are an infinite number of ways to generate a page that has the content you describe and even with a decent library, you're going to have a hard time getting maybe 70% of them. You have to generate a new page, inserting new resources (you're adding a new font), embedding the font if allowable. You have to extract out the page and all its resources (non-trivial).Which would become: BT /F1 12 Tf 72 720 Td (this is a ) Tj /F2 12 Tf (text) Tj /F1 12 Tf So in this case, you have to transform this into something like this: BeginText() ShowText("this is a text in a pdf document") Which when translated into something more familiar, is this: BeginText() ![]() In a sane world, your text on the page is going to be represented by something like this: BT /F1 12 Tf 72 720 Td (this is a text in a pdf document) Tj ET It's a small language similar to PostScript in semantics, but without looping structures or function definitions (so there is no halting problem). Page content in PDF is represented by short RPN programs that paint on the page. Just so you understand the scope of what you're getting into, "basic editing" of PDF content is nearly always non-trivial. A comprehensive list can be found at the everybodywiki's list of PS2 games with alternative video modes page. ![]() Ĭertain games only offer the ability to set the screen's aspect ratio in their in-game options. ![]() But for the games that do support asking the BIOS for the aspect ratio, the only way to switch their aspect ratios to 16:9 is via the following:īack out with to ensure it saves, and exit the emulator with +, + and +. However, the majority of games actually ignore this setting and offer the option in the game itself, if at all. In addition to this, the PS2's BIOS itself supports setting the aspect ratio to 4:3 or 16:9, and games can read this setting to determine what aspect ratio to display. If a game offers the option to use it though, there's no harm in activating it. By virtue of emulation, all games are rendered as progressive scan anyway. Thus, various PS2 games have varying degrees for supported video modes.įortunately, since we are using a high-level emulator, we don't need to worry about whether a game supports progressive scan or not. And this was also before video signals became standardized, like with HDMI.
